What happens to passwords and access keys after an update?
Use a long unique passphrase and keep a recovery key away from the encrypted data. The developer cannot recover a forgotten secret. Back up important data, then test one item with the new version before doing bulk work.
If Windows was updated the same day, should I restart the PC first?
Yes. After a system update, restarting and running a brief test is a sensible sequence.
